Lucy died without family present. Her church family visited her faithfully, but they weren’t aware when she passed away. Yet, Lucy didn’t die alone. God had promised her, “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.”
He is ever faithful. He was with her. Now she lives with him in perfect joy.
When I first met Lucy in the nursing home, she would tell me that you can’t totally trust God; you have to look out for yourself. I would assure her that God is always faithful. We can trust him. A couple years later, we were together, and another lady was present, who repeated Lucy’s former words. “You can’t depend on God. You have to watch out for yourself.” Lucy spoke up vehemently, “Yes, you can! I’ve learned to know that he is always faithful.”
No matter what is in front of us – an international crisis, a natural disaster, a medical crisis, an addiction, incarceration, a family problem, or death itself – this truth remains: God goes with us. He is faithful. His words of comfort ring true every time.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Thank you, Lord, that in Jesus you have forgiven all I’ve done. Thank you that you are with me. Assure my quaking heart that you’ve got this, even when I can’t see the way ahead. Amen.
God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”
So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
